Scoliosis Treatment

Scoliosis is marked by a visible curve in your spine, a shoulder or hip sticking out, trouble sitting or standing, uneven shoulders, tiredness or shortness of breath, and more. It’s a lifelong disease that can progress with age unless you take steps to manage it.

At Pelchat Chiropractic Center, we want you to know about the latest exciting bit of research that studied the effect chiropractic care had on 28 patients. We want to give you hope and a plan.

Two Years of Analysis of Chiropractic Care’s Impact on Scoliosis

This 2011 study observed how an exercise-based chiropractic program impacted 28 adult scoliosis patients over the course of two years.

The researcher, Mark W. Morningstar, compared patients’ beginning primary Cobb angle (curve in the spine) to the angle at the end of two years. Their Cobb angles improved approximately 10° across all curvature groups. Pain scores improved by 39% after 6 months and further improved by another 21% at 24-month follow-up. Disability scores on the FRI improve from a baseline of 60% disability to 30% disability at 6 months and 18% disability at 24 months.

Chiropractors implemented what’s called the Active Reflex Correction in 3 Dimensions  (ARC3D), motions designed to promote better balance and restore the spine to a normal curve. Patients worked with specially designed weights used to help alter center of gravity in patients and underwent clinical therapies, including external weighting systems, spinal decompression, torso exercises and spinal molding fulcrums.

The phenomenal results were produced without drugs, braces or surgery. Every last patient experienced pain reduction, and those who completed the two-year treatment saw improvement in their Cobb angle and spirometry.
